Interactive Media (real-time generated imagery using a game engine), 2025
LYMENA is an interactive visual work composed of an inaccessible cave inhabited by computer
generated (CG) bats, and the meditative time that unfolds around it. The landscape of LYMENA is not only projected as continuously generated real-time imagery, but the viewer can also navigate the virtual space directly using a keyboard and mouse. Even when CG natural scenery appears to overflow with excessive imagery,It is, after all, nothing more than a “hollow”, a kind of “annotated hollow”, onto which a reproduction of nature has merely been mapped. What is truly important lies hidden from view. At the center of LYMENA exists a large cave inhabited by more than a hundred bats. The entrance to this cave is covered and protected by a green curtain, and the viewer cannot enter. However, when LYMENA first begins, a single bat flies out of the cave. It continues to fly around somewhere within the space that the viewer can explore. With patience and attentiveness, the viewer may be able to see this bat.
